A four man delegation from the West African Association of Public Accounts Committees (WAAPAC) has paid a courtesy call on the Acting Auditor General of Liberia, Mr. Winsley S. Nanka and the entire GAC staff. The delegates, who earlier formed part of the WAAPAC delegation to the just ended 3rd WAAPAC meeting and conference comprised of three Deputy Auditors General from the Republic of Ghana headed by Mr. Yaw Agyei Sifah and included the Deputy Director of Audits for Annual Reports and Public Accounts of the Supreme Audit Institution of the Federation of Nigeria, Mr. D.C. Bosa.
Welcoming the delegates to the General Auditing Commission, AAG Nanka recounted the numerous assistance given to the GAC by the Ghana Audit Service and indicated that the Ghana Audit service has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the GAC. He said that SAIs in Africa are in the vanguard of the fight against fraud, waste and abuse and noted that the lack of development in Africa is due to the lack of transparency and an accountable governance system.
He further maintained that fighting corruption requires the collective efforts of every SAIs and its government, he indicated that SAIs can accomplish this by fostering improved relations with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the media and international partners.
For his part, Deputy Director of Audit for Annual Reports and Public Accounts, Hon. D.C. Bosa of Nigeria’s Federal Auditor-General Office said he was glad to be at the GAC to take with him some knowledge of the work of the commission as a way of improving his SAI’s job.
The visit was climaxed by a tour of the various departments of both the Audit Service and Administration.
