Political Neutrality at GAC

The General Auditing Commission (GAC) has dismissed with immediate effect one of its staff, Mr. Eric Gbanmie, for what the commission termed as his failure to adhere to the “Political Neutrality” document signed by him. Mr. Gbanmie’s pronouncement on radio as the spokesman of the National Union for Democratic Progress (NUDP) is in gross violation of the Commission’s political neutrality clause.

The INTOSAI Code of Ethics on independence, objectivity and impartiality is very clear on maintaining the actual and perceived political neutrality of a Supreme Audit Institution (SAI).  It is important that the SAI maintains its independence from political influence in order to discharge its duties in an impartial way.

The management of GAC wants to make it clear to the public that the commission is independent, remains politically neutral and will not tolerate any staff member who violates the Commission’s political neutrality clause.
